When Shunryu Suzuki, one of the founders of the Zen monastery movement in the U.S., first came to the West Coast, his English was very poor. He asked a passerby in a San Francisco park the above question. The straightforward reply encouraged him that he would find fertile ground for Zen in the American mind.
